Introduction
Over the years I have run into many people who have been blessed by God in many and wonderful ways. Since Jesus Christ is "the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow" (Hebrews 13:8), we can expect God in Jesus Christ to do today what Scripture narrates Jesus did in the flesh. Therefore, to encourage others who may be suffering without God's help, and to challenge the Church to believe that Jesus Christ is alive and doing what he always did, I include these witnesses to God's mighty acts. I did not post any story until I had received permission from the author.
In speaking of God’s mighty acts, Christ’s greatest act was his sacrifice for us on the cross and his mighty resurrection, and that two-fold event is the foundation of all his words and deeds as narrated in Scripture. These saving acts narrated here, however, reflect some of the works of Jesus in the days of his flesh, particularly in regard to individuals. God also acts in many, many other ways in the church and throughout the world, but here I restrict myself to individual testimonies.
One of the unhappy features of contemporary Christianity is that there are many charlatans who deceive people by claiming to do miracles, or they work people into frenzies where it is difficult to actually know if something comes from God. The fact, however, that there are many false claims to miracles does not deny that some miracles are genuine. In the stories given below, I have taken care to ascertain the veracity of what I have heard. I could not verify these miracles by on the spot observation since these stories were told to me, but in all cases, I restricted myself to people whose veracity seemed credible to me. In most cases, these were people I knew or had met face to face.
These are human stories. They are not Scripture. If we wish to think aright and see the fullness of God's saving acts, we must read, believe, and obey Scripture. This means that these essays are not sources of Christian truth, but they do confirm the truths sufficiently revealed in Scripture, and they show that Jesus Christ is very much alive. Let him be praised forever.
